Pennsylvania’s Food Stamp Enrollment on the Rise

Food Stamps enrollment in the state of Pennslyvania has gone up and down during the pandemic.

However, recent data shows that there’s been a steady increase in recent months.

Additionally, there have been increases during the last seven straight months, according to newly released data from the state Department of Human Services.

More than 1,891,000 Pennsylvanians are now enrolled in SNAP benefits, approaching the record-setting enrollment levels of the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the potential reasons for the increase are:

1. Increasing food prices might be pushing more people who were already eligible to apply.

2. Pandemic-era rules that eased some paperwork requirements making it easier to stay enrolled in the program.

3. The end of the monthly Child Tax Credit in December, which had provided families with kids up to $300 monthly per child.

Additionally, Enrollment in Medicaid has grown significantly.

This is largely because of a federal rule instituted in March 2020 that kept most people enrolled.

In the state of Pennslyvania, there are currently more than 3.4 million people enrolled in Medicaid.

Here’s the bottom line about the Pennsylvania SNAP Payment Schedule for April 2022:

SNAP households in all counties in Pennsylvania should have their SNAP deposits between April 1st – April 14th.

Additionally, Cash Benefits recipients should have their assistance benefits deposits between April 18th – April 29th.
